I see that Medical Spa MD used the ability to sit down with Deguara, a Sciton BBLs product manager today and hear about a Sciton BBL!

Sciton is genuinely pleased with the BBL and they are not afraid to discuss their newest IPL and laser technologies. “Sciton’s newest IPL comes with a number of incredibly striking elements that you will not notice in the BBL’s rivals” says Deguara. “Our clients get pleasure from the basic fact that you can use an unlimited amount of pulses when your Scition is within your warranty. Many Intense pulsed light (IPL) bulbs include a control. At the time you reach the control, it can be standard to switch your hand piece 3-4 times each year with a fee of up to $7,000 for each one. You will never ever encounter this premium with BBL.”

I asked Cheryl just what exactly she wishes our members to realize regarding their product. “Sciton’s BBLs has got 2 lights rather than the a single ordinary bulb found in different Intense pulsed light (IPL) models. It not just indicates a greater life time yet additionally extends lamp degradation found after brief periods with several other competitive IPLs. In that respect there are no Intense pulsed light (IPL) that you can buy which is normally as sturdy, effective and useful as the BBL.”

Some Other Fantastic Attributes You Can Get With The Sciton BBL

Similar Intense pulsed light (IPL) systems demand all sorts of different hand pieces to switch between wavelengths or spot size. BBLs employs a single hand piece yet still includes fantastic adaptability and convenience:

Rapidly compatible filter allow transitioning the light frequency within a matter of secs. Individuals won’t be waiting and doctors cut back on time without having to power off the IPL to change filters.

New magnetic size adapters help make adjusting the spot size easy and convenient. There is no need to invest in a distinct hand piece just to modify the sizing and treat varying regions. A massive 15X 45 millimeter size is easily converted to 7 millimeter , 11 millimeter circular or 15 mm square almost instantly.

Sciton’s BBLs might be the only product where you may influence the dermis through 0 – 30 degrees centigrade. This allows for better handled treatments through boosting basic safety while capitalizing on medical outcomes.

For everybody who is fascinated with figuring out exactly what cosmetic dermatologists and various physicians running medical spas think of the new IPL and cosmetic laser reviews of Syneron, Sciton, Alma, Cutera, Solta, Palomar, Candela, Cynosure, Lumenis and others, or procedures such as Thermage skin tightening, Smartlipo, Restylane, mesotherapy and laser treatments, be sure you see the cosmetic laser skin reviews forums of Medical Day spa MD, a network of physicians inside aesthetic medicine.

With new products entering the market like Dysport and Evolence, and other exiting like ArteFill, it is important that your staff be knowledgeable of the products used in injectable procedures.

Although this chapter from the Advanced Medical Aesthetics Training Manual wasn’t actually requested in the training manual I wrote for the academy students, I felt it was extremely important for the entire medical spa staff, especially for medical estheticians, to know the difference amongst the various treatments used to alleviate the appearance of wrinkles and folds, and the difference between dynamic and static lines.

Medical estheticians have the most “face time” with clients, examining it with magnifying lenses, treating it with exfolliants, moisturizers, galvanic current, high frequency, various acids, etc. They understand the realm of fine lines and wrinkles and know what can be alleviated with topical treatments such as facials, peels, microdermabrasion and laser resurfacing, and what cannot.

I cannot tell you how many patients call or come into our office with no knowledge of the difference between paralyzing agents such as Botox and Dysport, and dermal fillers. We take it for granted that we know the difference, but injectable products can be very confusing to the lay person. Because the aesthetician works with the client’s skin, they should be well versed in the differences in the two categories of injectables and the products that lie within. Estheticians become your most powerful education source for your clients which ultimately leads to an upsell for them (with possible commission).

Many people think all fillers products are the same, nor do they care to understand the difference between hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapetite. All they truly care about is “how long will it last” and will the “results look fake”. Only with proper education can the medical esthetician effectively and intelligently discuss the differences in the filler products, educate the patient about the effects and lasting results, and help lead the patient to the right product, or combination of products, for their expected outcome.

This information in this chapter is very important for your medical spa front desk/phone people as well!

What happened in medical spas, skin clinics and laser treatment centers in 2009?

Cosmetic enhancements circa 2009 can be divided into three basic categories. Non Invasive includes wash and wear injections and resurfacing treatments such as IPL & laser treatments and chemical peels, and clinical skin care. Minimally invasive falls somewhere in between surgery with visible scars, and the non invasive category, and can be performed in a doctor’s office. Invasive procedures involve surgery done to reshape or refine parts of the face and body, typically involving an office or hospital setting and anesthesia. Most common are breast augmentation, liposuction, mini face lifts and pretty much anything that involves a scalpel.

In the overall scheme of things, there is no ideal time frame to jump on the Botox bandwagon, although the trend is certainly towards doing things earlier as a preemptive strike for maintenance and to forestall the day when everything goes south. But there will come a time when creams stop doing enough to make you content with the way you are aging, and you start to wonder what else is out there. You don’t have to take it lying down (although lying down does make sagging disappear – try holding a mirror above your head).

The next logical step from wrinkle creams and sunscreen are chemical peels, laser treatments, and intense pulsed light treatments (IPL) that can even out skin tone and improve texture.

Botox is brilliant for lines around the eyes, forehead and mouth. Dermal fillers such as Restylane, Evolence and Radiesse are de rigeur for plumping furrows, creases and deeper folds. Brown spots and sun damage can be helped with a course of Fraxel or Pearl. For slack skin, tightening devices such as Thermage and Titan can deliver a subtle lifting effect on droopy brows and necks. The final stage before considering surgery tends to be a combination of several of these to maximize the anti-aging results.

Of course, when the non invasive treatments stop delivering what you really want in terms of sagging, sinking and bulges, you might consider a short scar face or neck lift and some minor eye rejuvenation surgery to reduce excess skin and fat deposits.

Medical Spa MD’s plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology forums are the scene of an unlikely brouhaha that’s more than just uncommon in medicine, it’s unheard of.

Growing increasingly frustrated by what cosmetic surgeons see as a totally manufactured silence and infuriating lack of clinical support from cosmetic laser and IPL companies, plastic surgeons, cosmetic dermatologists and laser clinics have taken their anger public in a kind of free-for-all that you don’t usually see from physicians. A public outing where ‘names are named’ and fingers are pointed… directly at the management executives of leading cosmetic laser and IPL companies.

In a few cases strings of emails have been published that detail conversations (or lack thereof) that have taken place, publicly embarrassing executives and even fellow cosmetic dermatologists that are acting as luminaries and educators. It’s as though the plastic surgeons have decided to take the gloves off and play hard ball really hard ball.

Of course the sites hosting these cosmetic surgeons forums have some headaches of their own. Medical Spa MD has been served with a number of lawyer letters and threats for daring to air these forum discussions in public.

There’s still plenty of pragmatism and horse sense left. Most of the cosmetic dermatologists comments that are left are made anonymously and the forums that host these discussions generally try to protect the physicians from hidden reprisals.

“We’ve received more than the usual web site’s number of nasty-grams”, says the publisher of Medical Spa MD, “but to censor public discourse between physicians is not what we’re about. The cosmetic surgeons on the site are responsible for what they post directly and commenting that they’re not receiving sufficient support is just that, their opinion.”

The issues are tangled by the types of support answers that the most vocal plastic surgeons are demanding, leaving the IPL and laser companies in the uncomfortable position of seeming to be alienating their cosmetic dermatologists as customers, or providing information for treatments that could easily be considered off-label use by the FDA, opening them up to potentially hazardous liability claims from patients and the very physicians who are demanding the answers.

The topic is not likely to die down anytime soon. Information that’s disseminated on the web has a long life and it’s obvious that technology companies are taking notice. In some cases they’ve actively joined in the discussion forums and proactively address concerns of individuals as soon as they’re posted, leaving an impression of active customer support. These tactics seem to be working as the IPL and laser manufactures who are active have a much lower incidence of negative comments from plastic surgeons who see their calls for support go unheeded.

In the end it will come down to market demands. Many cosmetic dermatologists and plastic surgeons who are opening new cosmetic medical or laser clinics and investigating IPL and laser treatments are finding their way into these new forums and asking more experienced peers for advice. IPL and cosmetic laser companies who aren’t part of the discussion can’t expect to win the propaganda wars.
