Cosmetic surgery is becoming increasingly popular these days, what with the need to have perfect bodies that look good no matter what you wear. And if you’re overweight or wish to lose a few stubborn pounds, you know you can always opt for a liposuction or a tummy tuck, two common cosmetic weight reduction techniques. But before you decide to go ahead with these surgeries, you need to be aware of the risks and consequences they come with, and you need to know that these procedures by themselves alone are not going to give you the ideal figure that you crave.
- First of all, in order to qualify for a liposuction and/or a tummy tuck procedure, you must be a non-smoker whose weight has not fluctuated for at least the past six months.
- Both procedures are not instant weight loss procedures. Rather, they only help you tone your body. For instance, if your weight is normal and if you have love handles, a flabby stomach and big buttocks that don’t go too well with your otherwise small frame, you could go in for a liposuction to remove the fat from these areas. Or if you’ve lost a large amount of weight and find your skin sagging, you could go in for a tuck procedure to get your body toned into shape. Some women find that they’re not able to get back their flat stomachs after a pregnancy, no matter what they do. They qualify as ideal candidates for a tummy tuck.
- A safe liposuction procedure only removes up to 8 lbs of fat from your body. If you need to have more removed, you have to go in for two or more surgeries spaced within a month or so of each other.
- You need to understand that you’re not going to be back to normal (when you’ll be able to resume activities that are a part of your daily life) for at least three months.
- A liposuction or tummy tuck does not entitle you to eat what you want and lead a sedentary and lazy lifestyle. You need to maintain the body you’ve got now with a sensible diet and a moderate amount of regular exercise. If not, you’re going to end up with more fat deposits in all the wrong parts of your body.
- Be extremely careful and choosy when it comes to selecting a cosmetic surgeon for these procedures. Although they’re not equivalent to heart surgery, they can develop complications if you’re not careful enough. Both procedures use general anesthesia to put you to sleep during the surgeries and that by itself is a cause for concern. Ask your doctor all the questions you need to clarify and also make sure that they’re well informed about your past medical history. Remember, it may be a cosmetic procedure, but you’re not going to the beauty salon to get your hair or face done; it could turn out to be a matter of your life.
